One day.

We’d meet on the beach, on a lazy Sunday morning

The wind would be blowing, and the waves, crashing

You’d be the boy building sand castles, and

I’d be the girl writing poems in the sand.

One glance, a shy smile

The sand castle, forgotten

My poem, unfinished

We’d sit there and gaze at the little kids running

And talk about how beautiful and vast the ocean is

We’d sit there till the waves crash over the sandcastle

And wash away my poem

We’d look at each other, and laugh.

It’d start raining, and we’d run

For cover, hand in hand

I’d take you to the library, where

We would talk in hushed whispers and giggles

Ignoring the librarian’s looks

I’d read to you my favourite passages out loud

And you would enact them, to my delightful applause.

We’d go out and get some food at some local diner

Occupying the booth for hours till they shoo us out

Then we’d head to the beach again, and spread a blanket on the sand

Lie down side by side, and look at the stars

With soft music playing in the background.

Maybe, just maybe, the Universe

Would finish the poem I started, after all.

  1. ahhhh, this is beautiful; a wonderful dream…I hope you get all this and know that if you do, the universe will not only finish that poem, but it will write volumes πŸ™‚

  2. Beautifully splendid. I was reading the comment exchange between you and hbhatnagar, and it made me go back to the beginning, rethinking “maybe”. Dawns on me: The poem is being written in the sand, it was inevitable the waves would wah the poem away, and so the poet had hoped all along “the Universe / Would finish the poem” started in the sand. Which is a moving sentiment under the whole story of the two.

  3. I am sorry but the universe will not, could never finish the poem.

The universe is strange, you see
    Magic and stardust all serene
    Yet an unfulfilled dream,
All it hopes for is love, to stay forever.

With the tales of your adventure,
The stars have a new story to tell.
    Etching the symphony of love
In words of never ending poetry.

So, no the universe will write forever to be remember but could never finish that poetry.

Beautiful words, eloquent story, well composed. πŸ™‚

PS : Apologies, if I have overstepped a bit (I guess I did a lot more than a bit).

I’m really sorry. I am kind of being anonymous. May be in the future I will strike off the anonymity. But you can call me AK. Really sorry about this. πŸ™ˆ
