Rules of beauty.

“Let us break the rules

Of beauty”, she whispered

In my ear.

Let us stop swathing our faces

With anti-aging,

And fairness creams

That promise to make

Our skin glow.

Let us show the world

That beauty hides

In the wrinkles on your skin,

And the half parentheses

Your lips make

When they curve upward

In a smile.

That it comes pouring out

With the sound

Of your laughter,

And that it resides

On the lips of the one

Who kisses your scars.

That beauty hides beneath

The layers of darkness

Inside your soul,

And in the stars

That burn bright

Inside your eyes.

Let us show the world

That

Beauty

Is

You.

      1. This is absolutely true and sometimes totally essential, especially when one is hurt by “the other” … you don’t want “that other” kissing the scars and doing even more damage. Sometimes another person (a third person) steps in, and when that happens, healing can be complete as well. However, you are right, all too often we must (and can) walk that lonely road to healing all alone.

  1. Lovely and truthful. We need t live ourselves for how we look, not some magazine image. I will however, keep my creams and potions; I’ll just skip the plastic surgery and Botox 🙂

      1. नमस्ते . You are most welcome. I has been my pleasure to read your poems; in fact –and if you do not mind-, I’ll share another one on my late sister’s blog, since poetry was (and still is) its main subject, and because I’m sure that she would have liked your work as much as me. It’s been a long time since I last read a short poem so beautiful and inspired as “Soul Poetry”.
A hug and all my best wishes!
